In my first blog I introduced myself and my interest in acne and acne scarring treatments. I mentioned briefly some of the other treatments I offer here at Aventus Clinic, but I wish to expand on these today.

In the UK, the majority of dermatologists practice solely in the NHS and even if they also work privately, they generally see medical dermatology patients similar to those seen in the NHS i.e. inflammatory skin disease, infections and skin cancer. Unlike in most other countries, it is not the norm for the British public to seek advice on general skin care and anti-ageing from their dermatologist. Often my patients are surprised when I tell them that I can in fact devise a skincare regime and even offer them anti-ageing treatment. However, Cosmetic Dermatology IS an established sub-specialty of Dermatology and one I enjoy very much. It so happens that many of the acne scarring treatments provide anti-ageing benefits as well so I can combine two of my loves into one! Here are some of the treatments (apart from acne services) that I can offer you at Aventus Clinic. Please see the main areas of my website for more detail relating to these treatments.

Wrinkle Relaxing Injections

Wrinkle relaxing injections, commonly known as Botox®, are a popular and effective method for reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles (those produced by normal animation of the face). By temporarily paralyzing the muscles responsible for facial expressions, these injections smooth out the skin and slow the formation of new wrinkles. The results can take up to 2 weeks, are natural-looking and typically last for several months. Please note this treatment is less effective for wrinkles which are present at rest as the muscles have already done their work and the skin is already changed.

Axillary Hyperhidrosis

Axillary hyperhidrosis refers to excessive sweating in the underarm area, which can affect skin appearance and confidence. Treatments for this condition include Botox®injections- the same ones that are used for wrinkles but instead of injecting the muscles, we inject into the skin. This treatment is very effective but is not a cure, so it needs to be repeated approximately every 6 months.

Polynucleotides

Polynucleotides are nucleic acids derived from natural sources and are known for their regenerative properties.  I use the Plinest range by Mastelli- recently voted best injectable product of the year at the prestigious Aesthetic awards. They work by stimulating fibroblasts to produce collagen, promoting cell growth and repair, improving skin elasticity, and reducing the appearance of wrinkles. This treatment is administered through injections and can be used to treat the full face including around the eyes as well as the neck and decolletage. They are used on the scalp to stimulate hair growth. It can even be used on areas of the body to stimulate collagen and tighten the skin e.g. the abdomen or backs of the arms.

Exosomes

Exosomes are tiny vesicles that play a crucial role in cell communication and regeneration. They are one of the ways in which cells ‘talk’ to each other. In dermatology, exosomes are used to transfer growth factors and other beneficial molecules to the skin cells, enhancing their ability to repair and renew. This cutting-edge treatment can significantly improve skin texture, hydration, and overall vitality as well as shorten recovery and give improved results from skin procedures such as dermal needling and laser treatments. I use the scientifically backed range from ExoCoBio where the exosomes are derived from rose stem cells.

Intense Pulsed Light

Intense pulsed light utilises a band of light (whereas laser is one single wavelength, IPL is a range of different wavelengths) to treat superficial pigmentation (dark marks like freckles and sunspots) and redness caused for instance by rosacea. It also helps to rejuvenate the skin. I use the highly effective Nordlys system for this.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

Radiofrequency microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that combines the well-documented benefits of microneedling with radiofrequency energy. This technique stimulates collagen production and tightens the skin, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance. The tiny needles create micro-injuries in the skin, which are then treated with radiofrequency energy to enhance the healing process and promote skin renewal.

CO2 Laser Resurfacing

CO2 laser resurfacing is a powerful and precise method used to treat various skin imperfections. This technique involves using a carbon dioxide laser to remove the outer layers of damaged skin and stimulate the production of new, healthy skin cells. The procedure can address wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation issues, leaving the skin rejuvenated and with a more even texture.
